This story is about the clash between man and nature, or rather about man's destructive attitude towards it.
A forest ranger, one of the main characters of the film, is harsh and reserved. The villagers beware of him, calling him Savage. He does his best to protect the forest from poachers and illegal deforestation. Despite having the reputation of a cruel and tough man, Savage, in fact, is a gentle soul as he feeds and cherishes the forest's only bear, though, keeping it secret from the people. However, he faces a challenge - he is forced to kill his "wild pet" in order to save a human life. Notwithstanding his wild reputation, Savage's vulnerability is revealed once he realizes his powerlessness. He struggled for the existence of every single tree and animal, but had to face the bitter reality of dozens of cut trees and a living creature, that he killed by his own hand.
Hayk is also one of the main characters. He is an ordinary village fellow and cares for his family. Winter comes and Hayk has to fetch firewood from the forest. He respects the law of nature. He used to be a hunter, but not a poacher. Years ago, a horrible accident happened - a bear killed Hayk's father. Of course, Hayk takes revenge - he chases and kills the bear, which is believed to be the last bear in the area. However, upon realizing that nature never fails he vows never to take up the gun again.
Fate brings him to the place, where the forester usually fed the bear he cherished so dearly. By bad luck Hayk encounters the same bear, whose mother he killed years ago. Is it coincidence or the hand of fate?
The other characters in the film are ordinary villagers, hunters or cattle breeders. In their simple village dialect, they talk about their daily routine, their ups and downs and discuss when it is hunting and when it is poaching. Their philosophy is simple - you should care for nature and respect its law without consumption spree, otherwise nature may punish us and strike back.
